Cedar Point celebrates America's 250th birthday

This year, the Sandusky-based amusement park is marking a historic milestone as the nation celebrates its 250th birthday with the return of Star-Spangled Celebration, a six-day patriotic event packed with live entertainment, aerial tributes, specialty food, family activities and a fireworks spectacular. Running June 29 through July 4, the celebration transforms the iconic Sandusky amusement park into a red, white and blue showcase honoring America's heritage while giving guests even more reasons to visit during one of the busiest weeks of the summer season. Historic aircraft, skydivers take center stage One of the most moving moments of the event comes on June 29 when historic World War II aircraft from Lake Erie Warbirds take flight above Cedar Point as part of the Flight of the Flags tribute. The aircraft will carry American flags belonging to service members who made the ultimate sacrifice, creating a powerful aerial salute over Lake Erie. The skies will once again become part of the show on July 4 when professional skydivers from Deploy Events descend onto Cedar Point Beach, carrying a massive Star-Spangled Celebration flag. Demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day and are expected to provide some of the most memorable moments of the holiday celebration. Live music, patriotic entertainment throughout the week Each day begins with a live performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" near the park's main gate, setting a patriotic tone before guests head to the rides and attractions. Special performances highlight the week, including appearances by the 122nd Army Band of the Ohio Army National Guard on July 1. The military ensemble, whose history dates back to World War II, will perform patriotic favorites and American classics on the Main Midway Stage. On July 3, the Cleveland Cavaliers Entertainment Team brings its high-energy show to Cedar Point with performances featuring the 216Stix Drumline, the Wine and Goldies Dance Team and Cavs emcee Ahmaad Crump. Surprise appearances throughout the park will add even more excitement with music, giveaways and interactive entertainment. Limited-time summer treats add flavor to the celebration No Fourth of July celebration would be complete without festive food, and Cedar Point's culinary team is introducing more than 10 specialty offerings available only during Star-Spangled Celebration. Among the featured creations are the: • Firecracker Dog topped with jalapeño relish, sriracha mayo and Flamin' Hot Cheetos • Cleveland Po' Boy Dog featuring kielbasa, barbecue sauce, fries and Cleveland slaw • Firework 250 Crazy Shake loaded with strawberries, blueberries, candy and a Bomb Pop. Guests looking for a classic summer dessert can indulge in the All-American Funnel Cake topped with vanilla ice cream and patriotic sprinkles. Specialty cocktails and mocktails will also be available throughout the event, including the colorful All-American Mocktail served in a souvenir cup. Fireworks spectacular over Lake Erie The celebration culminates on Independence Day with Light Up The Point, Cedar Point's annual fireworks spectacular. Beginning at 10 p.m. on July 4, fireworks will illuminate the sky above Cedar Point Beach while synchronized music celebrates America's spirit and history. The show has become one of the park's signature summer traditions, drawing guests to the mile-long beach for one of the best fireworks viewing experiences in the Midwest. Guests seeking an upgraded experience can purchase a VIP Viewing Experience that includes reserved beach seating, exclusive snack offerings and access to the Beach Bar. Celebrating the attractions that helped build an American icon While Star-Spangled Celebration honors America's birthday, it also shines a spotlight on some of Cedar Point's most beloved attractions that have entertained generations of visitors: • The Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad continues to offer guests a nostalgic journey aboard authentic steam locomotives. • Blue Streak remains a fan-favorite wooden coaster more than six decades after its debut. • Cedar Downs Racing Derby stands as one of only two operating racing carousels in the U.S. • Magnum XL-200 changed the amusement industry forever when it became the world's first complete-circuit roller coaster to top 200 feet. Together, these attractions help tell the story of a park that has been welcoming visitors since 1870 and remains one of America's most enduring summer destinations. Honoring those who serve In addition to the patriotic festivities, Cedar Point continues its longstanding support of military members and first responders through discounted admission programs and dedicated veterans-only VIP parking near the Main Gate. All Star-Spangled Celebration activities are included with regular park admission, giving guests the opportunity to experience rides, entertainment, food and fireworks as part of one of the nation's largest America 250 celebrations at a theme park.
