Put-in-Bay man dies in crash

PUT-IN-BAY — A Put-in-Bay man died Saturday after the motorized scooter he was driving crashed into a utility pole.Daniel French, 32, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.At about 2:15 a.m., French's 1998 Honda Elite motor scooter was traveling southwest on Catawba Avenue north of Mitchell Avenue. His vehicle drove over the center line, went off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole, according to news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He was thrown from the scooter when it made contact with the pole.French, who also maintained a residency in Lakewood, near Cleveland, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and police believe alcohol might have been a factor.He was known for his "joy and laughter," and was a staunch Cleveland Browns fan, according to an obituary published in The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer.
