A decade in prison for Willard shooting perp

NORWALK — A Willard man was sentenced to prison recently after being found guilty at a jury trial in April. Zachary U. Johnson, 22, of the 300 block of Park St., was found guilty of one second-degree felony count of felonious assault and one third-degree felony count of intimidation. The jury acquitted him of the top count of the indictment, attempted murder, a first-degree felony. They also found him not guilty of retaliation. At a Thursday sentencing hearing, Judge James Conway ordered Johnson to serve 10 to 13 years in prison. Johnson has been in the custody of the Huron County Sheriff's Office since April 17, 2025. He should receive about 14 months of jail time credit. Background Just before 1 a.m. on April 14, 2025, Willard police officers were called to a residence in the 300 block of Park St., according to a Willard police press release. They arrived to find a 19-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds, the release states. He was transported to Willard Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Johnson was arrested and charged with attempted murder. While in Huron County Jail, Johnson was accused of retaliation and was subsequently moved to Sandusky County Jail.
