Free folk music concert announced

PORT CLINTON — Come on out and hear a free concert of folk music. The Musical Arts Series in Port Clinton will host its annual outdoor concert with Steve and Lisa Ball performing folk music of the 1950s and 1960s. The show will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27 in the covered pavilion at Firelands Presbyterian Church, 2626 E. Harbor Road, Port Clinton. If it rains, the concert moves into the church. In the spirit of celebrating our country's 250th anniversary, the Balls will present folk tunes that go back to the 19th century, ranging from the Carter Family to John Denver. They will also tell their audience how this music changed our country as the turbulent 1960s approached. They will include the stories behind the music and how and why these tunes became popular. They will also discuss what led to the folk boom and how these tunes have lived on as time goes by. Their performance will include music by Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot and other artists. An ice cream social will accompany the program, and audience members are welcome to bring lawn chairs and picnic lunches. The concert is free of charge and handicapped accessible.
