Margaretta's Lane named first-team All-Ohio

After leading perhaps the best season in program history, Margaretta's Cassidy Lane continues to be rewarded. The senior was the lone area first-team All-Ohio pick when selections were recently announced. The Polar Bears went 20-6 this season behind Lane's arm and bat. Margaretta advanced to a Division VI regional final for the first time since 1987. In the circle, the first-team district pick was 14-3 in 20 appearances. She tallied 177 strikeouts in 110 innings, finishing with a 2.16 earned run average. At the plate, Lane hit .505 with 49 runs batted in, 46 hits and 40 runs scored. Lane clobbered a program-record eight home runs and added nine doubles. Margaretta junior Brooke Hastings (.483, 43 hits, 31 RBI, 12 doubles) and sophomore Lucy Edwards (.447, 43 runs, 38 hits, 23 RBI) were second-team district picks in Division VI. Also for the Polar Bears, sophomore Ellaynah Schaefer (.405, 37 runs, 34 hits, 21 steals) was a honorable-mention selection. Edison was well represented in the Division V district picks. Juniors Abby Cloud (12-4 pitching record, .476, 30 hits, 30 RBI) and Natalie Desautels (.468, 37 hits, 29 runs, 26 steals) were first-team selections. Senior Stella Brown (.314, 26 steals, 25 runs, 22 hits, 18 RBI) was honored on the second team and senior Peyton Taylor (.388, 26 hits, 24 RBI, 20 runs) was a honorable-mention pick. Port Clinton sophomore Jae Mazur (.471, 40 hits, 35 runs, 32 steals) was also on the honorable mention list. Clyde sophomore Ariah Farrar (.486, 38 runs, 36 hits, 35 steals, 17 RBI) was a first-team district selection in Division IV. She was joined on the second team by Bellevue junior Ryleigh Knutti (.459, 34 hits, 14 RBI) and on the honorable mention list by Perkins junior Aubrey Ransom (.373, 25 hits, 20 RBI, 18 runs). In Division VII, St. Paul junior Ella Kalizewski was a second-team All-Ohio and first-team district pick. Kalizewski batted a whopping .623 with 54 RBI and 43 hits. Of those hits, she had 14 doubles and nine home runs. Kalizewski set the OHSAA record with 14 RBI in a game against Plymouth on April 24. Monroeville senior Madison Reiber was named honorable mention All-Ohio and first-team district. Reiber hit .460 with 40 runs, 40 hits and 25 RBI. Half of her hits went for extra bases as Reiber tallied 10 doubles, six triples and four home runs. Also for the Eagles, Payton Weilnau was a first-team district selection. The junior was 13-6 with 220 strikeouts in 105 2/3 innings in the circle while batting .484 with 32 runs and 31 hits. Honorable mention picks included St. Paul senior Bella Guerra (.375, 35 runs, 30 hits, 18 RBI) and sophomore Ryleigh Mansfield-Bush (.412, 35 runs, 35 hits, 17 RBI), as well as Monroeville junior Taylor Scheid (.351, 28 runs, 27 hits, 26 RBI). In Division III, Sandusky junior Akiyla Jones (.431, 28 hits, 26 runs, 22 steals, 19 RBI, 4 HR) and Norwalk sophomore Maddie Gamble (.513, 40 hits, 29 runs, 15 RBI) were both honorable-mention selections.
