Chapman sentenced for escape from Sandusky County Jail

FREMONT — An inmate who escaped from the Sandusky County Jail in July was recently sentenced to additional prison time for his actions.On Sept. 14, Jordan Chapman, 26, was sentenced to three years in prison for the escape. That sentence is added to a previous prison term, which was imposed for a separate crime, for a total of five years behind bars.Sandusky County Judge Robert Hart imposed the sentence in the county's court of common pleas.Chapman and another inmate, 37-year-old Mickey Hardy, escaped from the county jail by walking out the detention facility's side door and scaling the fence surrounding the property.WATCH: Jail inmates escapeChapman and Hardy were able to evade authorities for two days — allegedly with the aid of Sarah Dannenberger, 37, Charles Teeple, 34, Christopher A. Torres, 31, and Joshua Newsome, 39 — before Lucas County authorities arrested them on July 19 in Toledo. Both pleaded guilty for the escape.Dannenberger, Teeple, Torres, and Newsome were each indicted on two felony counts of obstructing justice on July 28."We don't want people who have been accused or convicted of a crime to be back on the street until they've served their time," Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton said. "Any number of terrible things could have happened, but luckily did not thanks to a quick response from law enforcement."Hardy's sentencing is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. today.
