"Pretty' paintings on display

PORT CLINTON — "Go Make Yourself Pretty" is the name of one of Hope Burger's paintings that will be shown at an exhibit hosted by The Arts Garage in Port Clinton. A public reception will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at The Arts Garage, 317 W. Perry St., Port Clinton. Burger's art evokes storytelling and spurs the imagination to wonder what the images, typically faces, are thinking and feeling. A graduate of fine arts from Kent State University, Burger has been exhibiting her art in galleries and shows for more than 15 years. She currently works at her studio in Fremont. Burger's creative process is more intuitive than planned. She begins with a playful layer of acrylic, collage and other mixed media, and, soon, images appear to her, which she develops into art with a creative flair. Her work is influenced by her inner thoughts, memories and personal experience. Burger is a four-time winner of The Arts Garage's Battle of the Artists contest that takes place at an annual fundraising event for The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council. Multiple artists paint together on a large canvas for several hours. Burger will also be teaching a class at The Arts Garage on Aug. 22 called Finding Faces. To sign up, visitgpcaac.org.
