Pedestrian dies on Milan Road

HURON TWP. — A Wisconsin man is dead after he was struck by multiple vehicles while walking on Milan Road (U.S. 250) in Huron Township on Tuesday. Richard Hartnell, 56, of Kenosha, was attempting to cross Milan Road, according to a media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He was just south of Fox Road when he was struck by a Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by a 66-year-old Fremont man. Hartnell was then struck by a Toyota RAV4 operated by a 35-year-old Norwalk man. Hartnell was pronounced dead at the scene. The Fremont man received minor injuries. The Norwalk man was not injured. State troopers arrested the motorcyclist. They reportedly smelled alcohol on his breath and he refused to participate in field sobriety tests. The patrol's post will be forwarded to the county prosecutor to determine if additional charges will be levied. The northbound lanes of Milan Road were closed between Scheid and Fox roads for about 90 minutes. Southbound traffic was maintained by officers providing traffic control.
