Norwalk library eager for summer reading program.

NORWALK — The Norwalk Public Library hopes many children take advantage of the annual summer reading program, as many events encourage kids to read when they're out of school. Starting June 2, registration begins three weeks before a scheduled event and must be conducted in-person. Sign up your child for school-aged programs based on the grade he/she just completed at the library, 46 W. Main St, Norwalk. Here's a look at some notable events happening in June at the library unless otherwise noted: • Summer Reading Kickoff: from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 1 — To add to the fun of the first day of summer reading, there will be a fantastic foam party taking place behind the library. Have fun dancing and playing in mountains of foam and enjoy hot dogs. This is a free activity for all kids who sign up for summer reading. • Justice Mobile: from 5-7 p.m. on June 1: The Justice Mobile provides legal education and resources to the public. They will be parked outside the library for walk-in appointments. • Beaded American Flag Pictures: from 1-2 p.m. on June 2 at the Enrichment Center for Huron County, 325 Shady Lane Drive, in Norwalk: Learn how to create American flags with paint and beads. Interested individuals must call 419-668-6245 to register. • Summer Chefs Carnivores: from 4-5:30 p.m. on June 9 — Learn to prepare homemade meatballs and tomato sauce to create the perfect sub. For children in grades 1-5. • Craft Cafe: from 5-7 p.m. on June 9 — Bedazzle books and bookmarks while enjoying provided refreshments. Teens are welcome to attend. • Nailed It! Carnivores: from 4-5:30 p.m. on June 10 — Learn to prepare homemade meatballs and tomato sauce to create the perfect sub, then compete for the title of ultimate meatball sub champion. For children in grades 6-12. • Sofios Park Day: Dino Games: from 11 a.m. to noon on June 12 — Join in on some friendly competition with challenges, like dino egg spoon races, protect the nest and more. For children in grades K-5. • Get Moving Monday: from 10:30-11:15 a.m. on June 15 — Join a balloon circus and obstacle course. Participate with your little one(s) in balancing, tossing and bopping balloons. For ages 2-5 plus their parents/caregivers. • "Beach Read": 6-7 p.m. on June 15 — This month's book club pick is "Beach Read" by Emily Henry. Join for a chat about the book while enjoying mocktails and creating your own charm keychains. Books are available at the main desk. • Day Camp Be a Paleontologist: from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 16 — Become a paleontologist for the day while digging for fossils, building a giant dinosaur and making a fun craft. For children in grades K-5. • Movie Trivia: from 7-8 p.m. on June 17 at Berry's on Main, 15 W. Main St., Norwalk — Join for trivia night with the theme of blockbuster movies. • Front Yard Storytime: from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on June 18 — Meet on the front lawn for summer stories read by Ms. Julie and Mr. Justin. For children up to 5 years old. • Get Moving Monday: from 10:30-11:15 a.m. on June 22 at Sofios Park, 39 N. Old State Road, Norwalk — Join for fun animal movement and stretches, so bring a towel in case the ground is wet. Attendees will then go on a storywalk hike and read the latest dinosaur adventure. For children between 2 and 5 years old. • Toad Houses: from 6-7 p.m. on June 22 — Create toad houses to place in your garden or landscaping. • Pizza & Paint: from 6-7 p.m. on June 23 — Follow along with a painting tutorial while enjoying pizza. For children in grades 6-12. • Family Storytime Dinosaur Adventures: from 6-7 p.m. on June 24 — Come read fun dinosaur stories, create puppets and go on a dinosaur fossil hunt. • Fossil Explorers: from 11 a.m. to noon on June 26 — Explore how extinct animals compare to animals living today through hands-on activities, including holding real fossils and more. For children in grades K-5. • Get Moving Monday: from 10:30-11:15 a.m. on June 29 — Join in a dance party. Dance and twirl with ribbons and scarves while listening to our favorite songs. For children between 2 and 5 years old.
