Police: Man head-butts wife while she holds son

SANDUSKY — Police arrested a Sandusky man Monday after he allegedly head-butted his wife while she held their son.Ray Starkey Jr., 33, of the 3200 block of W. Monroe St., was charged with domestic violence and child endangerment.Police responded to Starkey's home just after 3:30 p.m. when a caller reported a fight between Starkey and his wife, according to a Sandusky police report.Officers met Starkey outside the residence. He claimed he accidentally head-butted his wife when he bent down to pick up their son. He accused his wife hitting him multiple times.Starkey admitted he drank when officers asked about the alcoholic odor they reportedly smelled on him.Police then went inside the home and spoke to Starkey's wife and mother who witnessed the alleged fight. The wife said she argued with Starkey because he'd been drinking since the night before.She tried to take their children to her mother's home, but Starkey allegedly wouldn't let them leave.When she tried to walk out the door, Starkey allegedly head-butted her while she held their 2-year-old son.The wife had a lump on her head and the boy had a small bruise on his head from the altercation, the report stated.The wife didn't want to press charges, but because of witness statements officers pursued the charges.Police took Starkey to the Erie County jail.
