Humane society seeks new board members

PORT CLINTON — The Humane Society of Ottawa County is looking for new members to lend them a helping hand.The humane society is looking for two to four residents to fill up their board of directors. The board is allowed up to 12 members, and, right now, it has seven members."We've always had room for more members," shelter manager Lesa Heredia said. "It's just finding people who are interested."This is a volunteer position.Board members join in the day-to-day operations that make the shelter run. Some of the main things would be voting on all policies and coordinating fundraising events.A general election will be conducted on Wednesday at the Ida Rupp Public Library in Port Clinton. The election will take place in the library's meeting room 310 at 7 p.m.To be eligible for election, potential candidates must fill out an application which can be found at the humane society at 2424 E. Sand Road, Port Clinton.All members of the Humane Society of Ottawa County are encouraged to attend the meeting. Members include anyone who donated to the shelter in 2016, adopted a pet this year or anyone who volunteered on a regular basis and employees."The more staff and board members we have, the more the animals we can benefit," Heredia said.Spot, a cat from the Humane Society of Ottawa County, sniffs Christmas cookies.
