Garage fire quickly quenched

SANDUSKY — Sandusky firefighters extinguished a garage fire early Friday morning. At about 5 a.m., first responders were called to the 300 block of E. Monroe St. for the report of a garage on fire with flames and smoke visible. When they arrived, firefighters were directed to the rear of the property by police officers already on scene. Smoke was billowing from a window, but no flames were visible. After gaining access through a door, firefighters began dousing the flames. The fire was knocked down in less than 10 minutes. Upon inspection, Sandusky fire Capt. Matt Lesch said the garage appeared to contain a music studio. A set of keyboards, a mixing station, a refrigerator and a couch were all extensively damaged and other contents. Firefighters from all three Sandusky stations responded as well as mutual aid from Perkins Township. Perkins firefighters went back into service quickly, as it appeared they were not needed. The cause of the fire was not determined as of midday Friday. An estimated loss in value was also not known. Firefighters stayed on scene for approximately two hours while a fire marshal investigated.
