PHOTOS: Perkins throws end-of-year baseball bash

PERKINS TWP. — The postseason celebration capped off another successful year. Many players, along with their parents and family members, attended an end-of-year party for the Perkins Township-organized Firelands Health Youth Baseball League. The party recognized all players, 340 in total, making this the area's most popular youth league for baseball. Play primarily occurs at Sports Force Parks in Sandusky. At no cost, township officials provided classic ballpark snacks — like hot dogs, hamburgers along with other goodies — and allowed children to play games while adults enjoyed an evening out. People could also get treats, like snow cones, from Snowie Sandusky. In effect for several years now, "The partnership between Firelands Health and Perkins Township continues to benefit the children of the community," township public service coordinator Brittany Henley said. "The partnership helps promote healthy lifestyles and good mental health for children of all ages." Along with Henley, Brad Link, the township's public works director, grilled up food and thanked all for participating in this year's league. "The event gives us a chance to say 'thank you' to all the coaches and volunteers who donate their time and wisdom to your youth program," said Link, who also extended his appreciation to those donating prizes raffled off Thursday night, including bats, batting gloves, fielding gloves, bat bags and more. "A special thank you to Firelands Health for their continued sponsorship of our league. We couldn't do it without their generosity."
