EHOVE CAREER CENTER • EHOVE Career Center and its EHOVE ambassadors celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Day. Here's a sampling of what they did: — Auto tech students completed a car repair for free. — A career exploration student helped another with their schoolwork — Renee Canfield made puppy chow for career exploration instructor, Lisa Lafollette, to thank her for supporting the exploration students. — Computer and networking technologies students gave doughnuts and a card signed by the senior class to the tech department to show their appreciation. — Criminal justice students passed out personalized cards and gifts to staff who made an impact on them. They also led the Valentines for Veterans initiative by making cards for local veterans. — Culinary arts students recognized the staff's hard work through gestures. — Diesel tech students made "I appreciate you" apples and smiley face cutouts for those who go unnoticed. — The welding and fabrication students made heart shape crafts — Medical careers students made Valentine's Day cards for the Ohio Veterans Home. — Juniors in the visual and interactive media program wrote notes to seniors and played bingo with Words of Kindness. SANDUSKY • Sandusky Schools students participated in the Regional Scholastics Arts show. • Holly Blanton's first-grade students celebrated Valentine's Day. • Sandusky High School swimmers and Swan Club members signed the bottom of the incoming pool. The students had the chance to put their signatures in the structure before the final liner was installed. DANBURY • Danbury Middle School students participated in the Port Clinton Elks Americanism Essay Contest. The essay is an annual competition for all Ottawa County schools. There were more than 300 submissions from students in grades 5-8 who answered the question "What Does Patriotism Mean to Me?" Students from Danbury Schools with top honors: — Sixth grade: second place to Glade Phonphong; third place to Adalyn Ross — Seventh grade: first place to Graham Bartzen; second place to Anna Zywiec; third place to Kaleb Franks — Eighth grade: second place to Place Bryce Lewis; third place to Ryann Schade These students were recognized at the Port Clinton Elks Lodge 1718 on Feb. 18 with dinner and awards. The school board also recognized the students at its Feb. 19 meeting. PORT CLINTON • Port Clinton High School announced Lydia Roberts and Kerynn Christiansen as its Students of the Month for January. Roberts is a four-year varsity letter winner in soccer, this year's captain and part of the All-Ohio team and National Academic Awards. She was selected for the SBC All-Academic Team and a Kiwanis scholar-athlete. In school, Roberts is active in several clubs, including the International Club, Ski Club and Drama Club. She has played the roles of Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" and Cinderella in "Into the Woods." Her next roles will be author and mermaid in the upcoming production of "Between the Lines." Roberts' other school leadership positions include historian for the National Honor Society and she participates in Touch of Class, an a cappella group. Next year, she plans to continue school with a major in English and a minor in marketing. She wants to pursue a career in publishing and book marketing. Christiansen currently serves as president of the high school's leadership council. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and a Freshman mentor and treasurer of the Drama Club. In the upcoming production of "Between the Lines," Christiansen will perform as Grace. She is also a member of Touch of Class. Christiansen is among the top of her class in academics. She is in the Top Ten students and is on track to graduate Summa Cum Laude. Outside of school, Christiansen is active in her church youth group. Christiansen plans to attend Ohio State University for a major in aerospace engineering. ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL • St. Paul High School students prepared for their upcoming "Big Fish" production. This year, the seventh- through 12th-grade students are involved in the cast and crew of the play.
