Starting 'roots' in Norwalk

NORWALK — A woman with deep roots in Norwalk wanted to entrench a new business there to help people feel more grounded in life. Becky Carbary recently opened Rooted in Balance Counseling Services — at 85 Benedict Ave, Suite 103 B — in Norwalk. It's near Mapleview Animal Hospital. "I chose this location for my business because Norwalk has been my hometown for the last 25 years," she said. Carbary, a 2004 Norwalk High School graduate, then explained the basis for Rooted in Balance. "My business is founded on identifying the roots that no longer serve you while also clinging to the parts of yourself that make you feel grounded and stable," Carbary said. "My hope is to help nourish and assist the Norwalk community within their emotional and mental health journeys." Carbary boasts an extensive background, preparing her for opening a business. Take a look at her resume, in which she: • Earned a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and a master's degree from the University in Toledo, both in social work • Received a social work-focused internship at both Fisher-Titus Medical Center and Stein Hospice • Served as a mental health therapist for almost 10 years at Bayshore Counseling Services and, most recently, was a contracted mental health therapist It's at this point Carbary decided to pursue her own practice. "I believe in the business of mental health therapy," Carbary said. Carbary then revealed she grew up surrounded by generational family trauma and dysfunction. "When I graduated high school, I had a 2-year-old daughter and limited support," she said. "I also had a lot of determination. Finding positive support and encouragement was of the utmost importance, and I highly valued those who I could look up to in this sense." She's experienced healing and transformation throughout life and wants others to share in this feeling. "My personal passion for helping others evolved from growing up in an environment that I am now able to recognize," she said. "Because of my experience, I made the decision to become a first-generation college graduate and pursue a career in social work in order to give back to others, as I know firsthand how powerful this gift was for me at a time when I needed it most." Carbary welcomes all people. She's worked with those dealing with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma and stress along with relationship and parenthood issues.
