Huron grad looks to defend world championship

HURON — Rudy Burger, a 2000 Huron High School graduate, looks to defend the title he won last year at the CrossFit Games World Championship event in Madison, Wisconsin. During the 2022 Nobull CrossFit Games, he won the title of Fittest on the Earth in the 40-to-44 age group. Coached by his wife, Lynette, Burger began his CrossFit journey in 2014 and has seen a rapid rise to the top of the sport. Many consider CrossFit as a branded fitness regimen that involves constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. "The annual CrossFit games season includes several stages of competition that seek to find athletes who are well-rounded in all aspects of CrossFit: strength, gymnastics, endurance, flexibility, power, speed and more," according to an organizational statement. "The CrossFit Games are the ultimate test of fitness." Burger returned to the Badger State in hopes of, once again, taking the crown. This year's competition begins today and runs through Thursday. He'll compete against nine other competitors from around the world and is only one of two competitors from the U.S. in the age group. Berger resides in Powell, Ohio with his wife and two children. When not working full-time as an engineer at Cardinal Health, Berger can be found at Chalk Dust CrossFit preparing for the games.
