Edison teachers receive Golden Apple awards

MILAN — The Milan Rotary Club named the three recipients for its 2022 Golden Apple Outstanding Educator Award: • Bobette Nemire, a math and English language arts teacher at Edison Elementary School • Pam Scott, a math teacher at Edison Middle School • Sarah Roan, an English language arts, publications and creative writing teacher at Edison High School Three Edison Schools teachers — from left, Pam Scott, Bobette Nemire and Sarah Roan — received the Milan Rotary Club's 2022 Golden Apple Outstanding Educator Award on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. "This award was created to enhance our community's respect for our teachers," according to an organizational statement. "It is an award for teaching excellence, not a popularity contest." Going through the nomination forms, all three teachers exemplified roles in improving students' lives through their dedicated teaching. Nominations came from community members, including former and present students, parents and faculty members. A luncheon ceremony occurred on May 24 to recognize the winners. Among the awards past honorees: • 2015 — Shirley Wallrabenstein, Beth Stipp, Lisa Whiley • 2016 — Chris Ceccoli, Amy Litteral, Rhonda Geason • 2017 — Haley Baun, Ronald Nemire, Anne Bickley • 2018 — Jennifer Wobser, Judie Ludwig, Lisa Matula • 2019 — Mike Moyer, Dora Wilbur, Lisa Gilliam • 2021 — Joe Collins, Cyndy Carrier Vajda, Kristi Schlessman The Milan Rotary Club recognized Edison High School students involved in the Interact Club. They are, from left, Stella Shover, Olivia Vitaz, Lindsay Roberts, Summer Thom, Lindsay Sneider, Kelly Wilson and Evelyn Gall. Additionally, the Milan Rotary Club recognized Edison's Interact Club. Advised by Patty Moyer, the school's librarian, interact is a volunteer community service organization comprised of high school students who take on projects to better their community. For instance, they mail care packages to alumni overseas, ring the holiday bell money for The Salvation Army and collect presents for OHgo holiday children gift drives. Members also help the Rotary club with various events. Those members recognized were Stella Shover, Olivia Vitaz, Lindsay Roberts, Summer Thom, Lindsay Sneider, Kelly Wilson and Evelyn Gall.
